If you’ve been following us for a while, you might remember Pioneer: a man, a workshop on an industrial estate, a robot called Dave and a very bad idea involving an asteroid. We’ve been planning it as a film for years.
It’s taken a detour. Pioneer has become a novel first, written by Paul and now on its third draft. Ten printed beta copies arrive next week, and early readers are already working through the ebook.

The cover uses the same Earth we built in Blender for the film, so if it looks familiar, that’s why.
Frank Bell has built a faster-than-light drive out of a second-hand delivery drone. On Thursday, a fifteen-kilometre asteroid will pass closer to Earth than some of our satellites, and Frank is going to launch into the middle of the broadcast to prove he was right. He has promised to be back for breakfast.
